Best wishes to the Socceroos
Best wishes to the Socceroos

Football (soccer) isn't really my sport. I'm more of a rugby union and cricket fan, but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on the Socceroos tomorrow when they take on Egypt in the World Cup.
It's always great to see Australia on the world stage, especially in such a big competition, so I'm wishing them all the best.
One thing I do appreciate about the Socceroos, and Australian sporting teams in general, is their incredibly diverse makeup. You see players from all sorts of backgrounds, reflecting modern Australia itself.
It's a really good reflection of our multicultural society and how sport can bring everyone together. That's something I think we do very well as a nation.
Speaking of the World Cup, it seems to have been plagued a bit by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system already. Every match report seems to mention some contentious decision or a goal disallowed for the slightest infringement.
I remember when it was brought in to 'clean up' the game, but it just seems to be causing more arguments and slowing everything down.
It's a bit like when new technology promises to solve all your problems, and then you find it just creates new ones. Makes you wonder if the old way, relying on the referee's call, was better after all, even with its imperfections.
So, while I won't be setting my alarm to watch every minute of the game, I'll definitely be checking the scores and hoping for a win for the green and gold. Good luck to the Socceroos – bring it home!
