Adelaide Central Market

Adelaide Central Market

I've been to markets in many places across the world and Adelaide Central Market is up there with the best of them.

There's a stunning array of produce to suit all tastes, and the place has a terrific vibe.

Today I had bacon florentine for brunch at Zuma's, bought French truffle cheese, Italian butter, multigrain sourdough bread and a keto lemon coconut slice!

It's somewhat expensive, especially the truffle cheese, but for a holiday indulgence, it was perfect.

I walked 3.6km to get there and finished up doing 11,300 steps today without any significant discomfort from my arthritis.

I walked into the city from Richmond along Sir Donald Bradman Drive. There's a lot of construction happening around South Road and near the netball stadium.

I wonder how South Australia affords it? The state doesn't generate much of its own revenue, apart from energy/mining royalties, and having Australia's most comprehensive system of point-to-point speed cameras.

I guess it's a beneficiary of the GST carve-up and it does have an effective, well-run State Government. (disclosure that I used to work there).

I lived in Mile End and Marleston for most of my four and a half years in Adelaide, and I like the inner west. I saw some of my old haunts today, and places where I used to run, which sadly I'm not doing these days due to arthritis.

There's some interesting artwork in the Parklands along Sir Donald Bradman Drive. Lie of the Land is an assortment of dome-like, beehive-shaped stone structures.

The artwork, designed by Aleks Danko and Jude Walton, was opened in 2004 . The display invokes Aboriginal “wurleys” or huts as seen in early European drawings.

These universal symbols of home were made with Kanmantoo stone sourced from an Adelaide Hills quarry, granitised sand, and black mallee box.

It was a nice walk to the market on a mild winter's day. I caught the bus back to Richmond, and enjoyed some of the market spoils for dinner.

Unfortunately, my football team's draw was changed and there won't be a home game tomorrow for West Adelaide. Instead, I'll travel across the city to Prospect Oval to see the Bloods take on North Adelaide.
